About Simon Davis

Before turning to writing, Simon Davis studied and practiced law for 35 years.  He completed degrees in Law and Arts (history/sociology) between 1979 and 1984 and practiced as a trial lawyer in Sydney, Australia, from 1984 until 2014.

He practiced in different areas of the law, but his principle interest was, and still is, trial advocacy and associated subjects including evidence, fact-finding, probabilities and ethics.

Simon has recently completed writing his first book which deals with the notorious Charles Manson murders in 1969 and the trials that followed.  The book is the first analysis of the events by an independent trial lawyer.

It is also the first revelation of a shocking conspiracy between Manson and the other defence lawyers which almost certainly resulted in the female co-defendants not getting a fair trial.

The book’s working title is In a Summer Swelter: The Charles Manson Murders.  The book is presently in the type-setting stage of printing and is due for release on 1 August 2017.  The book has received the following proof-only reviews:

The story is gripping.  The straightforward narrative approach is impressive.  The prose style is clean and clear.  The research skills are impressive, the material is well-shepherded and interesting.

Simon Davis has a lawyer’s passion for the subject – this much is obvious – but the writing is not just for lawyers.  It accomplishes the writerly trick of building a page-turner.”

– Trevor Bailey, Crown Prosecutor, Sydney, Australia

“The treatment of the defense counsel and the girls is simply tremendous. It is worth reading for that.  I am aware of no one that has considered this.”

– David Hull, Attorney, Portland, Oregon, USA.

Simon remains a member of the New South Wales Bar Association.  Although having retired from the profession, he retains a life-long passion for the law.  He is also a member of the Australian Society of Authors.

Simon lives with his wife Kathryn and they share their time between Bowral and Gerringong in southern NSW.
